InAlto dominates Col Margherita, an incredible natural terrace at 2514m above sea level, straddling the regions of Trentino and Veneto in the San Pellegrino Ski Area. During a day on the slopes or in high summer, its location next to the cable car’s upper terminal provides unspoilt peaks and the perfect spot for lunch, an aperitif or a snack with amazing views.
The mountain cabin, with expansive panoramic windows, commands a prospect of the main peaks of the Dolomites, their beauty and geomorphology making them a Unesco World Heritage site since 2009. From InAlto, you can feast your eyes on spectacular scenery, from the southern face of the Marmolada to Mount Pelmo, from the majestic Civetta to the Pale di San Martino mountain group.
For ski lovers, InAlto and the Margherita Pass are the perfect starting point. On snow-laden inclines sloping down to the valley floor, La Volata black piste winds downhill for 2400m, with a 630m elevation drop and gradients pushing 50%. The two red pistes, Col Margherita and Col Margherita-Lago Cavia are equally impressive and panoramic. Less demanding but no less enthralling, Le Caviette ski run descends more gently for 3 km and is suitable for all abilities.
Those who prefer slow ski, on the other hand, can let themselves be carried away by the magical atmosphere of the Lovers’ Slope (Pista degli Innamorati), which goes all the way to Falcade. The route provides views of the Marmolada and the Cime del Focobon in all their glory, through forests dotted with traditional wooden baite (mountain huts).
